President / Trip Coordinator

Name: Doreen Garner
Position: President and Trip Coordinator

Brief Bio

When I moved from Calgary about 24 years ago, I thought my skiing days were over. Hearing about the small hills in Collingwood, skiing was not very enticing. My neighbour Suzanne Davis invited me to a Skicousi day and I was pleasantly surprised. The next year I joined and have loved the wonderful friendships (oh yes and the skiing too.) I have gone on the trips every year just to get in my thirst for the mountains. Over the years I have been on the Board in various roles and thought it was time to rejoin our Skicousi Executive. I look forward to working with these committed fellow skiers.

Vice President

Name: Kathy Anderson
Position: Vice President

Brief Bio:

My interest in skiing flourished when I became a member of Caledon Ski Club in 1989. Once retired, I was available to ski on Thursdays and was keen to broaden my selection of places to ski.  I joined Skicousi in 2017 and am continually delighted by the opportunities for lessons, group lunches, après parties, and long trips to North American and European destinations. The best part of Skicousi is the amazing and fun new people I meet every season!⛷️💕

Secretary

Name: Pamela Maxwell
Position: Secretary

Brief Bio:

After 20 years of convincing myself that I didn’t miss skiing, Jan Stringer encouraged me to join Skicousi 5 years ago and I am forever grateful! The instructors have been fantastic, and the value of the lessons (financial and psychological) priceless. Winter Thursdays are now defined by a great day of skiing and socializing filled with endless laughs and memories in the making. What a great way to meet so many people that all share the love of the outdoors. I am very excited to be on the Skicousi Board. I will now be able to give something back to such a supportive and welcoming group of skiers/boarders.

Treasurer

Name: Diane Lucas
Position: Treasurer

Brief Bio:

I have been with Skicousi for about 7 years. I took up skiing a little later in life and have found the lessons to be of great value and allowed me to improve my skiing technique over the years.  Being able to ski at the private clubs on a weekday and avoid the long lineups on the weekends at Blue Mountain is a big plus. I have enjoyed long ski trips offered each year since joining. It’s great to get out on the mountains, enjoy the skiing and the camaraderie.  Now that I am retired, and have the time, it is rewarding to give back to the club.

Ski School Director

Name: Christine Eades
Position: Ski School Director

Brief Bio:

Over the past few years, I’ve enjoyed my role as the Snow School Director for Skicousi. I come to Skicousi as a lifetime member of the Caledon Ski Club where I am currently coaching both Adults and Children. I’m passionate about skiing and love to share that passion with others. In the off season, I can be found honing my golf skills at the Devils Pulpit.

Ticket Distribution Coordinator

Name: Kate Greenfield
Position: Ticket Distribution Coordinator

Brief Bio:

I have been with Skicousi for many years and have enjoyed the numerous benefits of being a member of such a great ski club. Over the years I have participated in the weekly ski lessons and with the guidance of the experienced instructors, I have improved my technique and gained confidence on the slopes.

The warmth and camaraderie of the Skicousi community have always made it an easy decision to return year after year. For me it has been a great opportunity to mix my love of skiing with great social activities. I look forward to my time on the Skicousi Board.

Name: Tammy Green
Position: Ticket Distribution Coordinator

Brief Bio:

I have been skiing for years and although I love being outside and on the slopes I wasn’t a very confident skier.  After a bad ski accident I thought about hanging up my skis for good until my friend, Kate Greenfield, encouraged me to join Skicousi and take lessons.  She enticed me by saying the instructors are fabulous, the private ski hills are amazing and not the least bit crowded, and the members are incredible. So I joined.  In just one year with Skicousi, I went from thinking about hanging up my skis to becoming a Level 1 Certified Ski Instructor!  Needless to say, when I heard Skicousi was looking for volunteers to be Board Members, I jumped right in!  Looking forward to another terrific year!

Brief Bio:

My first real ski experience was a trip to Mont Tremblant with my husband Bruce’s family in 1996.  I was terrified but enrolled in lessons and was thrilled to announce I could ski about mid vacation, when I joined the family for lunch.  After that Bruce and I would take a ski vacation in March or April.  That was it until we met Doreen Garner at company conferences and she invited us to join Skicousi.  Skiing with Doreen, taking lessons and the trips have pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me improve.  I am spoiled now by skiing the private clubs and look forward to January and February.  I have had loads of fun and laughs getting to know more members every year.  Jan Stringer has left big shoes for me to fill so thank goodness we will continue to see her smiling face most Thursdays.

Social

Name: Laura Smith
Position: Social

Brief Bio:

It has been a wonderful experience being a part of this great club, Skicousi! After 16 years of not skiing, while raising my two daughters, I have thoroughly enjoyed getting back on the slopes. Skicousi has enabled me to not only enjoy skiing again, but has provided me with better skills with the weekly lessons! The ski bus is a fantastic way to travel to and from the five great clubs! I have had the pleasure of getting to know so many wonderful people through skiing on Thursdays as well as fabulous trips to Italy and Sun Peaks. What a super way to embrace winter!

Barb and I truly enjoy putting a little fun and sparkle in to everyone’s ski experience!

We welcome any social ideas that you might have!

Name: Barb Anderson
Position: Social

Brief Bio:

When I was 7 years old my parents started our whole family skiing in a little club down near Peterborough, Ontario. It was wood skis, bear trap bindings and lace up boots. Luckily, we spent several years living in and near the Rockies, hence, my lifetime love of skiing. With the kids and my career trying to interrupt my sport I begged to trade kids with people so I could even get a day alone skiing! Fast forward many decades and I finally have found a group of like minded individuals. I am now semi-retired I have time to enjoy Skicousi along with old friends and new. Looking forward to partnering with Laura planning social events for the upcoming ski season.

Name: Henry Michael Coombs
Position: Digital Communications

Brief Bio:

Henry is my legal first name. Michael is my social name. Call me “Michael”.

On July 2, 2011, I was having dinner with a lovely woman while on a blind date, never having met her previously. At one point she cheekily asked: “I downhill ski in winter, what are you going to do?” So, I responded, “I’ll learn!”. She laughed so hard that she choked on her food and said, “You can’t! You’re 62 years old!”.  For Christmas that year, I received four private ski lessons with one of Caledon’s top instructors as a gift from her. Three months later, in April, I was skiing on black diamond runs at Sunshine in Banff. I’ve been loving the sport ever since. And I also got my revenge: I married the girl! Since we retired, we ski three to four times at week at Caledon and at all the private clubs with Skicousi. We love the group, love the skiing, love the events and love the travel. It’s a privilege to be of service.  I have big shoes to fill and will do what I can to contribute to the ongoing success of Skicousi.

Ellicottville Coordinator

Name: Julie Anne Leclerc

Position: Ellicottville Coordinator

Brief Bio:

I began skiing as a young girl in my teens as we had a cottage in the Quebec Laurentians near Mont Tremblant. When we moved to Ontario, I remember my husband saying to me that there was no skiing in Toronto so that, I thought, was the end my skiing career.  I sold my all my ski equipment and figured my skiing days were over.

My friend, Fay Hough, just happened to be a member of Skicousi and talked me into joining.  That was over 15 years ago and I haven’t looked back. I have gone on many of the ski trips to Europe, Western Canada and the U.S.  For a few years I volunteered on the Skicousi Executive Board as the Social Director, and was recently asked if I wanted to take on another role on the Board –  organizing our annual Ski trip to Ellicottville, and as I have always loved skiing in Ellicottville, I offered my services. I turned 70 this year and hope I still have many more skiing days ahead of me. I have made some wonderful and lasting friendships through this great ski club and look forward to many more future skiing trips.

Honorary Life Membership

Name: Jan Stringer
Position: Honorary Member

Brief Bio:

I joined Skicousi about 20 yrs ago. I had only been skiing for two years when I heard about the club and decided to join. I enrolled in the lesson program and I am still taking the lessons today. I find that if the weather is not too good knowing I have a lesson makes me go out. I have met some really great people and made quite a few friends. I was asked to be Vice President in my third y
